Schema theory Flashcards
1
Q
Schema theory
A
The idea that an athlete develops a set of generalised movements (schema) that can be adapted/refined to deal with a new situation.
2
Q
When do Recall schema occur
A
Prior to movement
3
Q
Initial conditions (Recall Schema)
A
- Where am I ?
- Gathers information from environment (where the performers body is)
- Knowledge of environment (position of body and limbs)
4
Q
Response specifications (Recall schema)
A
- What do I need to do ?
- Available options and what has to be done
- Movements, what are we trying to achieve, the motor programme we need to use
- Direction, speed, force, specific demands of the environment
5
Q
When do Recognition schema occur
A
During or following a movement
6
Q
Sensory consequences (Recognition schema)
A
- What did it feel like ?
- What the movement feels like-kinesthesis
- Information based on sensory feedback/ during and after movement
- All sensory system
- Knowledge of performance
7
Q
Response outcome (Recognition schema)
A
- What happened?
- Was the movement successful-
Knowledge of Result - Comparisons are made between the actual response and the intended outcome. If action is unsuccessful
adjustments can be made next time and the motor programme
8
Q
How can coaches organise practices to develop schema (5)
A
- Vary conditions
- Frequent feedback
- Praise and positive feedback
- Ensure skills being practiced are transferable to a game situation
- Identify skills that can be transferred to different sports
