To test the functioning of specific components usually to pinpoint issues specifically by turning on/off:
-command throttle body to open/close
-cooling fan on/off
-turn injectors on/off etc.
-emission control devices
What is freeze frame data?
Data captured at the instant a DTC is triggered
What are some of the reasons you might use a scan tool to do a maintenance reset?
-reset the engine oil change info
-“tell” the computer when the battery has been replaced
-electronic parking brake release during brake pad replacement
