scalp, face and parotid Flashcards
layers of scalp
skin connective tissue (dense) aponeurotic layer loose CT pericranium
arteries supplying the scalp
branches of external carotid
ophthalmic artery (branch of internal carotid)
- supra-orbital branch
- supratrochlear
innervation of the scalp
CNV = trigeminal
cervical nerves C2 & C3
muscles in facial expression
platysma
occipitofrontalis
auricularis muscles
orbicularis oculi (orbital & palpebral)
what nerve innervates the muscles involved in facial expression
facial nerve (CNVII)
location of parotid gland
superior portion sits on top of the ramus of the mandible bone below the zygomatic arch and sits on masseter muscle
course of parotid duct
leaves the anterior border of the gland and crosses the face in a transverse course over masseter muscle. at the anterior border of masseter muscle, it turns deeply into buccinator fat and pierces the buccinator muscle. It opens into the oral cavity near the second upper molar tooth
sensory innervation of parotid gland
V3
branches of maxillary nerve
zygomaticotemporal
zygomaticofacial
infra-orbital nerve
branches of mandibular nerve
auriculotemporal
buccal nerve
mental nerve
2 main facial nerve branches and subbranch
temporozygomatic
- temporal
cervicofacial
- marginal mandibular
5 main branches of facial nerve
temporal
zygomatic
buccal
marginal mandibular
cervical
course of facial nerve
- runs between mastoid process and styloid process
- penetrates the parotid gland between the superficial and deep parts and then crosses superficial to retromandibular vein, external carotid artery, mandibular and the masseter muscle
surface anatomy of parotid duct
found in the middle 3rd of a line between lower border of tragus and cheilion
it runs within 1.5cm of this line
what is the main muscle that supplies the nose
nasalis
