Scalp Acupuncture Flashcards
Where is the anterior posterior midline of the head
Align linking the glabella and the lower border of the external occipital protuberance
Where is the eyebrow occiput line
Align linking the upper border of the midpoint of the eyebrow and the tip of the external occipital protuberance
When to use the opposite side of the head cross method
For diseases on one side
When to select areas bilaterally
For diseases on both sides or for diseases of internal organs or systemic diseases
what size needle do you use for manipulation of scalp points
26 to 30 gauge and 1.5 – 2.5 inches in length
Require distance and depth and rotation for scalp points
Angle of 30° then rapid pushing without rotation
If there is no tightness felt how fast do you Withdraw the noodle
Rapid if tightness bring it all back slowly
Frequency of scalp treatment
Once a day or every other day for 10 to 15 treatments a second course may start after 5 to 7 day interval
Precautions for scalp acupuncture
Requires a long period of stimulation and give strong needle sensation therefore constant observation of the patient
Contra indicated in acute cases complicated by high fever or heart failure
In cases of cerebral haemorrhage is scalp acupuncture is applied only when the condition and blood pressure has stabilized
