SCALP ACU Flashcards
Midline of the head
glabella to EOP (occipital protuberance), antero-posterior line
eyebrow-occipital line
each eyebrow (Yuyao) to the EOP
Lower border of motor line
intersection of E-O line w/ hairline at the temple
if hairline is not present…
line is drawn above the midline of the zygomatic arch
recommended needles
26-28 gauge 2.5-3 inch needles, inserted horizontally to the scalp not touching the bone
once needle is in place…
should not be further raised ad thrust, twirled rapidly 200/min is ideal, wide amplitude should be used 2-3 rotation forward and back until qi is obtained, leave in place 5-10 mins. , repeat 2-3xs
stimulation should be…
strong and somewhat intense to achieve satisfactory results; have client lie down to avoid fainting
precise location of the areas
bears directly on the result
disease affects ONE LIMB
CONTRALATERAL SIDE of the head is used
dz affects bilaterally
stimulate sites on both sides of head
dz of internal organs, SYSTEMIC
in nature as hypertension, arteriosclerosis w/ numbness in the limbs, urticaria or illness that are difficult to distinguish one side from the other, treat BOTH sides of scalp
Side-Motor: location
line starting from a point 0.5cm posterior to the midpoint of midline and stretching diagonally across the head to a point at the intersection of the zygomatic arch (superior margin) w/ the hairline at the temple
Motor: upper 1/5
paralysis of lower limb
Motor: 2nd/3rd fifths
paralysis of upper limb
Motor: lower 2/5
upper motor neuron paralysis of face (opposite side), motor aphasia, dribbling saliva, impaired speech
Side- Sensory line
line parallel and 1.5cm posterior to motor line
sensory- upper 1/5
LBP (opposite side) numbness or paresthesia in that area, occipital HA, stiff neck, vertigo
sensory- 2nd/3rd fifths
pain, numbness or other paresthesia of upper limb (opposite side)
sensory- lower 2/5
migraine HA, trigeminal neuralgia, toothache (opposite side) arthritis of the TMJ
Chorea & tremor control: location and ind.
parallel w/ and 1.5 cm anterior to motor line; Sydenham’s chorea, tremors, palsy and related symptoms
blood vessel dilation & constriction
parallel w/ and 1.5 cm anterior to chorea and tremor control area; superficial edema, hypertension
vertigo & hearing
horizontal line 1.5cm above and centered on apex of ear, 4cm in length; tinnitus, vertigo, diminished hearing, Meniere’s syndrome
speech #3
overlaps vertigo and hearing area at midpoint and continue 3cm posteriorly; receptive aphasia
voluntary movement
w/ tuber parietele origin, 3 needles can be inserted inferiorly, posteriorly, and anteriorly to a length of 3 cm, between them 3 lines make 40 degree angle; apraxia
