SC7_Cell Test Review Flashcards
Uses sunlight to make food for plant cells
Chloroplast
Rigid structure; surrounds plant cells and provides shape and support
Cell Wall
Organelle that contains the genetic information
Central Vacuole
Membrane-bound structure in eukaryotic cells that has a specific function
Nucleus
Surrounds cells; controls what goes in and out
Cell Membrane
Clear, jelly-like fluid that surrounds the organelles
Cytoplasm
In plant cells, it is a storage compartment that holds mostly water and helps give cells their shape
Organelles
Makes proteins for the cell
Ribosome
Converts sugars (food) ito usable energy
Mitochondria
What are the three parts to the cell theory?
- All organisms are made up of one or more cells
- Cells are basic units of structure and function in all organisms
- All cells come from other cells that already exist
Compare and contast plant and animal cells. List 3 similarities and 2 differences.
Both have some kind of a vacuole, both have Endoplasmic Reticulum
Differences: Chloroplast, central vacuole and cell walls are only found in plant cells
Compare and contrast prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells.
Difference: Eukaryotic have a nucleus
Similarity: Both are cells
Draw a plant cell… Label the cell wall, cell membrane, cytoplasm and nucleus and chloroplasts.
Draw the picture
How are cells organized in animals?
Cell–>Tissues–>Organs–>Organ Systems–>Organism
Who was Hooke?
First person to look at cells
