How must “, verb-ing” modifier be used?
- Modifies the nearest action and doer of that action (before the comma).
- the “,-verb-ing” part is an event that’s inseparable from the previous clause, and is often used to connect cause and effect. However, if it’s an independent event, we use “and”.
