Sampling techniques Flashcards
1
Q
What are the different types of sampling techniques?
A
- Random sampling
- Systemic sampling
- Stratified sampling
- Snowball sampling
- Opportunity sampling
- Self-selected sampling
2
Q
What is Random sampling?
A
- When everyone in the target population has an equal chance of being selected
- Advantage: removes sampling bias
- Disadvantage: Can take time and can be expensive
3
Q
What is systemic sampling?
A
- The people involved are selected in a logical order
4
Q
What is stratified sampling?
A
- Put the population into categories and then choose a sample that is in the same proportion as the population
5
Q
What is snowball sampling?
A
- Asking people involved which fit the target population to tell their friends and family about the study and to ask them to get involved
6
Q
What is opportunity sampling?
A
- Uses people from the target population who are available at the time and wanting to take part
7
Q
What is self-selected sampling?
A
- When people get involved in a study due to volunteering
- Advantage: Quick and easy to carry out
- Disadvantage: may not be representative
