simple random
every member in the population has an equal chnace of being selected
systematic
every member in the population is given a number, and individuals are chosen based on regular intervals.
stratified
dividing teh population into subgroups based on a relevant characteristic, and the number of individuals chosen from each subgroup represents their propotion of the population
cluster
dividing the population into subgroups that have similar charcteristics to the whole sample. a whole subgroup is then selected
convenience
individuals that are the most accesibile to teh researcher
volunteer
participants volunteer to participate
purposive
reasercher uses their expertise to select a sample that is most useful to the purposes of the research
snowball
recruitment of participants via participants
quota
divison of the population into mutually exclusive subgroups and tehn recruit sample unit until teh quota is reached
