Sampling in experiments Flashcards
Random sampling
Sampling in which all possible characteristics are taken into account by giving each member of a target population an equal opportunity to participate
Stratified sampling
A theory-driven approach in which the essential characteristics of the sample are chosen in prior and are applied to a target population to find the distribution of these characteristics in the target population. The participants are recruited according to these proportions.
Convenience (opportunity) sampling
Sampling technique in which researchers recruit participants who are closest in reach or most accessible
Self-selected sampling
Sampling in which respondents themselves respond to advertisements or fliers and get selected: in a way the respondent selects themselves as researchers then recruit the interested participants.
