SAMPLING Flashcards
Define Sampling frame
This is a list from which a sample is selcted
What is sampling
The purporse of sampling is to ensure that those included in the study are representative of the target population
what are the types of sampling
Random sampling
Systemic sample
Stratified sample
Quota sample
Snowball sample
Opportunity Sampling
Define Random sample
every member of the target population has an equal chance of being selected
Define Systematic sample
The reseacher pick every nth on the list
Define Stratifield sample
the reseacher puts the population into different categories then chooses a sample which reflects the overall population
what is Quota sample
the reseacher puts the population into different categories based on their characteristics
What is Snowball sample
this is when a reseacher ask a particiapnt if they know anyone who is willing to join
What is the opportunity sample
Reseacher will ask those who are avaliable in time.
What are some advantages of random sampling
cheap
quick
easy
every has equal chance of being chosen
What are some disadvantages of random sampling
not representative
you cant ensure there is an equal amount of people chosen
what are some advantages of systematic sampling
easily sort of people
quick
cheap
What are some disadvantages of systematic sampling
you will get a different sample if you change the nth number that you pick
not every one has a chance of beingn chosen
What are some advantages of stratifield sampling
all grounps are represented in the sample
easch person has an eqaul chance o being chosen
What are some disadvantages of stratisfield sample
it requires more reseacher skills diving based on a set criteria
you may not know the characteristics of the population
