Q

What exam do you need to look for on salivary gland disease?

A

look for infection and stone
palpate glands and ductal opening
milk gland to see clear drainage
palpate floor and cheek
quick CN exam - CN 7 goes through parotid

16
Q

What is acute vs chronic sialadenitis?

A

chronic is less painful

17
Q

What is chronic sialadenitis releated to?

A

decreased salivary flow, dehydration, calculi, salivary stasis

18
Q

What is a major cause of sialadenitis and unilateral diffuse swelling of major salivary glands?

A

sialolithiasis - related to dehydration

most - submandibular

19
Q

How do pt present with sialolithiasis?

A

colicky postprandial swelling of gland

20
Q

What is medical management of sialolithiasis?

A

Hydration, compression and massage, antibiotics for the infected gland

21
Q

What is the surgical management of sialolithiasis?

A

Duct cannulation with stone removal, gland excision in recurrent case
