When do we cancel TA forms?
Authority is fulfilled
Error is made on form
How do we cancel TA?
Locally controlled location:
Hand to signaller, who will cancel the form and notify TC or cancellation time
Remotely controlled location:
Driver will cancel, and notify TC of cancellation time
What is a DCPM?
Dual Control Point Machine
What is the purpose of a DCPM?
Enable remote control of points by signaller
OR
In case of failure, allow driver to operate points under instructions from signaller
What are the levers of a DCPM?
Selector lever (smaller)
Hand throw lever (larger)
What are the positions of the DCPM selector lever?
Motor
- allows remote control of points
- prevents manual point control
Hand
- prevent remote control of the points
- protects the train by holding corresponding signal at stop
What are the positions of the hand throw lever?
Normal (N)
- points set for regular movement
Reverse (R)
- points are set for a diverging movement
What might you be asked to do once your train has cleared a manually controlled DCPM?
Return to the DCPM
Return selector lever to MOTOR
Return hand throw lever to NORMAL
How do you operate a DCPM?
Unlock the levers
Move the selector lever to the “HAND” position
Move the hand throw lever to the opposite position, then the desired position
Lock the levers
What is an EHPM?
Electro Hydraulic Point Machine
What is the purpose of the EHPM?
Enable the points to be remotely controlled
OR
In case of failure, allow a driver to operate the points under signaller instruction
What are the controls of the EHPM?
Power/Manual switch
Red directional control lever
Pump handle socket/pump handle
What are the positions of the EHPM power/manual switch?
Power - allows remote operation of points
Manual - holds all fixed signals corresponding to the points at STOP, allows manual point control
What are the positions of the EHPM directional control lever?
Normal
Centre
Reverse
How do you operate the EHPM?
Unlock the lid
Set power/Manual switch to “MANUAL”
Move and directional control lever to desired position
Pump handle until points are fully home and locked
Leave power/manual switch in “MANUAL”
Close and lock lid
Apply hand locking bar
How would you secure points after using EHPM/DCPM?
Point clamps
Hand locking bar
What does “SET BACK” mean?
The procedure in which the train is driven back in the direction it came from
Train is driven from leading cab
What does “PROPELLING” mean?
Driving and braking from any non leading cab.
Competent employee must be at the leading cab
What is the speed for setting back?
15km/h for propelling
Extreme caution - 25km/h for set back
Where is the metrol controlled area?
Bound by:

Westgrarth
south Kensington
Moonee ponds creek junction
Macauley/Flemington bridge
What do you require before performing a set back in the Metrol controlled area?
Permission of the Senior Network Controller at Metrol
EXCLUDING
Jolimont to Clifton hill and Westgarth

How does a driver declare a train disabled?
Fill in a Drivers Relief Authority/DRA (location & length)
Dictate DRA to TC
How does a driver protect their train if it becomes disabled?
Secure the train (cab unattended procedure)
Place red marker lights
Take DRA, radio and red flag
Walk 500m/first fixed signal at STOP protecting relief end of train
Display red flag/light
Inform TC
What must the relief driver do when assisting a disabled train?
Obtain proper authority (TA)
How does the relief driver approach the disabled train on ABS?
From rear:
Follow signal aspects until train, then approach with pilot (driver) at MAX 15km/h
From advance:
Reduced speed until 2km away from disabled train. From then on, 15km/h
What are the 5 C’s of the relief procedure?
CONFER with the driver
COUPLE the trains
CANCEL the DRA
CONTINUITY test, to ensure train can be controlled from leading cab
CONTACT TC to obtain permission to move
What speed do you do to reach the disabled train?
ABS:
From rear/bidirectional = signal aspects (r1 s3)
From advance = reduced speed until 2km out, stop, then 15km/h
ATC:
Signal aspects
When must you use your whistle in the MURL?
Entering and exiting MURL
Departing platforms
Moving from stationary (signals etc)
In emergency situations
What are the class of signal in the MURL?
Home signals, there are no automatic signals
Which signals are controlled in the MURL?
Entry/exit signals (low speed caution cannot be used to enter)
Junction signals
