BAE + EMU Flashcards
What are the common pneumatic components of all EMU’s?
Compressors
Reservoirs
Safety relief valve
Air dryers
What do the compressors do?
Supply’s compressed air to the reservoirs
What do the reservoirs do?
Stores compressed air produced by the compressors.
What does a compressor governor do?
Monitors the main reservoir pressure & turns compressors on/off as required.
What do safety valves do?
Prevent reservoirs from overcharging if the compressor fails to stop. Located on the main reservoir.
What do air dryers do?
Removes oil, dirt and water particles from the compressed air
What are the 4 trains operated by Metro?
Comeng
Siemens
X’Trapolis
HCMT (High Capacity Metro Train)
What does the M and T stand for on the Comeng/Siemens/X’Trapolis?
M - Motor Car
T - Trailer Car
When entering the Drivers Cab from the ground, what can you not be wearing? And where is it to be placed?
You cannot wear your Backpack while climbing up into the Cab.
Take it off your back and put it into the Cab, making sure to leave the doorway clear before you climb up.
What is required (for safety) when climbing up into the Cab from the ground?
3 Points of contact at all time
When exiting the Drivers Cab, what must you do before climbing down?
Look to ensure the exit point is clear and no hazards are visible before descending.
What are 3 safety things you must never do while the train is in motion?
- Never ride on the steps
- Do not ride on the side of the train
- Do not allow any part of your body to protrude from the cab
How are doors numbered?
Door 1 is located on side A (RHS to driver), doors are numbered clockwise.
Eg. A side has 1,2,3 (Comeng/X’Trapolis)
B side has 4,5,6 (6 is LHS behind drivers cab)
What train cab is this? And where is the master controller located?
Comeng
Master controller is located on the right, however the brake system is on the left.
What train cab is this? Where is the master controller located?
Siemens
Located on the left (break and master controller combined)
Which train has the master controller/brake on the right?
X’Trapolis
What common safety equipment is found in all train types?
- First Aid Kits
- Red & Green Flags
- Fire Extinguishers
- Audible Track Warning Signals (ATWS)
- Emergency Track Circuit Jumper Cables
- Switch Stick
What key opens the ATWS?
5P Key
What 2 main systems use Pneumatics?
Braking
Suspension systems (Comeng/Siemens/HCMT)
What are Isolating Cocks used for?
Used to enable and disable the flow of pressurised air.
They can turn equipment on or off, or redirect compressed air.
If the handle of an Isolating Cock is aligned with the pipe, is it open or closed?
Opened
