OSHA
Occupational Safety and Health Administration; created as part of the US Department of Labor to regulate and enforce safety and health standards to protect employees in the workplace.
EPA
Environmental Protection Agency; registers all types of disinfectants sold and used in the US.
State regulatory agencies
They exist to protect salon and spa professionals and to protect consumers health, safety, and welfare while they receive salon and spa services. State regulatory agencies include licensing agencies, state boards of cosmetology, commissions, and health departments. Regulatory agencies require that everyone working in a salon or spa follow specific procedures.
CDC
Centers of Disease Control and Prevention; study disease and provides guidance to prevent their spread.
SP
Standard precautions; introduced by the CDC in 96 to replace universal precautions (everyone is considered a threat). Workers must assume that ALL blood and body fluids are potential sources of infections, regardless of the perceived risk.
MSDS
Material safety data sheet; contains information compiled by the manufacturer about product safety including precautions to reduce the risk of accidental harm or overexposure, and flammability warnings. Also provides disposal guidelines and medical and first aid information.

Food and drug administration
