Safety Fundamentals Flashcards
Explain EYE PROTECTION and requirements
All personnel entering eye-hazardous area must wear probes or eye protective devices
Deliberate Level
Situations when is:
-Ample time to apply RM process in planning evolution
Time Critical Level
Situations when is:
-Little or no time to make a plan
RISK ASSESMENT
The process of detecting hazards and assessing associated risks
Give examples of PPE’s
- Head protection
- Hearing protection
- Eye protection
- Foot Protection
In-depth Level
Situations when:
- Time is not a limiting factor
- Detailed risk assessment
What are the five step processes of RM?
- Identifying Hazards
- Assessing Hazards
- Making risk decisions
- Implementing controls
- Supervising
Acronym: IAMIS
Explain IDENTIFYING HAZARDS
Haz Ident. is Important because it can cause:
PROPERTY DAMAGE
INJURY OR DEATH to personnel
Explain IMPLEMENT CONTROLS
- Measures that can be used to eliminate hazards or reduce the degree of risk
- CLEAR, SIMPLE execution orders to be understood at ALL LEVELS
Explain FOOT PROTECTION and requirements
All marine personnel exposed to foot hazardous areas shall be furnished safety footwear at government expense. Hazardous areas includes: constructions, maintenance, transportation, weapons, supply, vehicle maintenance, etc.
Explain the purpose and information contained in MSDS
Is a technical bulletin containing information about materials, such as the:
-composition
-chemical and physical characteristics
-health and safety hazards
-safe handling and use
Supervisors are required to provide training to everyone that uses the material before they use it
Explain ASSES HAZARDS
For each hazard identified determine the DEGREE OF RISK in terms of PROBABILITY and SEVERITY
Explain ACCEPT NO UNNECESSARY RISK
Any risk that if taken, will not contribute meaningfully to mission accomplishment or will needlessly jeopardize personnel or material.
Discuss the term RM and the concept of the RM process
RM
-One of the BEST MEANS available to eliminate needless loss of LIFE, INJURY, MATERIAL DAMAGE
RM PROCESS
-Minimizing RISK to and ACCEPTABLE LEVEL commensurate with mission accomplishment.
Explain HEAD PROTECTION and requirements
Safety helmets protect against IMPACT , PENETRATION, AND ELECTRIC SHOCK. Any personnel entering head hazardous areas shall wear appropriate head protection
