-Olanzapine (calms down quickly)
-Risperidone, haloperidol (acute psychosis, agetation)
-Lorazepam (agetation)
-Fluoxetine (irritable)
-Lithium carbonate (impulse aggression)
-Carbamazepine (aggression)
after an initial outburst of anger nurse should be aware that:
it usually will resurface within ~90 minutes
once anger has resolved the nurse should
-explore options to address issues/unmet needs
-commit to a realistic timeframe to deal with the issue
-discuss with patient how to prevent reoccurance i..e. triggers
-do not make promises you cant deliver on
after a aggressive incident it is encouraged the staff/nurse
-debreif
-avoid internalizing
-positive coping
-review facts, processes, response
-teaching provided regarding post trauma experiences
