Further information to gather re safeguarding someone in abusive relationship (for child)
A
- Age of other person involved
- Duration of relationship
- Type of abuse
- Any immediate danager
- Vulnerabilities of other person involved
- Parents involvement - need to break confidentiality if they are at risk (mention this at start)
- Schools involvment - get consent to speak with them, what they know, if adhering to policy, ensure other person is safe
- Contact safeguarding team - inform patient
- Police involvement

How to report urgent concerns re child/young person?
A
- Telephone social services urgently to refer
- Write referral as per local guidelines within 48hrs
- Sometimes may need crisis team support too, forensic medical examinations in child sexual abuse cases

Sharing information - Caldicott principles
A
- Obtain parental agreement when referring child to social care UNLESS this could put child in greater risk if informing parent
- Can store and share safeguarding information within record (can use safeguarding tree? patient cant see)
- Document all discussions
