Safe Landing Policy Flashcards

1
Q

What is the safe landing policy

A

OM A 8.13.7

Comprises 4 main elements:

  1. Inflight landing performance assessment
  2. Stable approach criteria
  3. Safe touchdown criteria
  4. Safe rollout criteria

Q

Stable approach criteria

A

Approach is considered stable when:

Aircraft is in the planned landing configuration (gear down landing flap achieved),

Stabilised on the correct vertical and lateral profile, and,

Stabilised at the target approach speed.

Only in circumstances of rapid wind changes, turbulence or adherence to appropriate ATC speeds where speed has not been achieved by the 1000ft auto call-out and the speed is within 20 kts of target approach speed and reducing, can the approach be continued. The speed must be stable at the target approach speed by 500 ft AGL otherwise a go around should be flown.

Q

Safe touchdown criteria

A

A touchdown is considered safe when all of the following criteria are met:

  1. Main gear touchdown within touchdown zone
  2. Main gear touchdown and trajectory within runway edge is guaranteed
  3. Normal runway contact within the geometric landing limits

Q

Safe rollout criteria

A

The aircraft must be decelerated to assure a safe stop prior to the runway end and to be down to taxi speed by the last 300 metre of the runway.

If after selecting reverse thrust, stopping is not assured, maximum braking and maximum reverse should be selected.

Safe rollout achieved by:

  1. Timely use of deceleration devices that were included in the IFLD
  2. Maintaining deceleration until stopping is assured and down to an appropriate taxiing speed.

Q

Takeoff alternate minima

A

Normal operating minima apply, engine failure limitations must be considered.

The ceiling must be taken into account when the only approaches available are non precision or circling.

Q

Destination aerodrome

A

Need:

  1. Normal operating RVR.
  2. For non precision or circling approaches, cloud ceiling at or above the minimum on the approach plate.

Q

Isolated destination, destination alternate and enroute alternate

A

Lowest minima available:

Cat 2/3…. Cat 1 RVR

Cat 1 and LTS Cat 1…. NPA RVR/vis, ceiling shall be at or above MDH

NPA (including RNAV with DH at or above 250ft)…. NPA RVR/vis + 1000m, ceiling MDH + 200ft

Circling…. Circling minima

Cloud ceiling is defined as the lowest level of cloud covering more than half of the sky (BKN or OVC)
