MEL Flashcards
Repair intervals
Repair interval A - no standard interval for this category, however items should be rectified in accordance with the dispatch conditions stated in the MEL.
Repair interval B - 3 consecutive calendar days, excluding the day of discovery.
Repair interval C - 10 consecutive calendar days, excluding the day of discovery.
Repair interval D - 120 consecutive calendar days, excluding the day of discovery.
Repair interval - - items identified with a dash relate to non-airworthiness or restrictions imposed by BA outside of the MMEL, and repair interval is down to engineers judgement.
Repair interval extension
Can be used once to extend ADDs with repair interval B and C only.
CAA have to be informed within 10 days of use of this.
Acceptable Carried Forward (ACF)
Applied where:
- The captain determines that the defect complies with the MEL
- The defect contains no (m) maintenance action, or is considered non-airworthiness, or does not concern safety related cabin equipment
- There are no maintenance personnel or spares readily available (would delay a departure)
Can’t be used from main maintenance base where the defect has the restriction ‘no dispatch main maintenance base’.
ACF is linked to the defect, and not the originating captain.
Single Event Authorisation (SEA)
Applied where:
- MEL maintenance action or other maintenance action or inspection is required by the MEL prior to dispatch.
- No BA or authorised engineer is available to rectify or defer the defect.
Contact Maintrol, who will source a local engineer and authorise the use of SEA.
