What is the Eucharist?
From Greek word meaning to give thanks
Known as mass or holy communion
Started by Jesus (The Last Supper)-it is a meal to celebrate and remember
What is transubstantiation?
Roman Catholics believe at the Eucharist, bread and wine, becomes the body and blood of Christ
Protestants believe bread and wine are symbolic and Christ is present spiritually
Baptists believe it’s an act of remembrance
What happens at mass?

What is the liturgy of the Eucharist?
At the last supper Jesus shared his body and blood with us
“This is my body, this is my blood”
The Eucharistic prayer is a special prayer at mass
The consecration makes the bread the body and the wine the blood of Christ
Explain the sacrament of the Eucharist?
It is the taste of the heavily feast
It is the best way to give thanks
It is a reminder of salvation and life with god
It is the centre of Christian worship
It is sharing Jesus’ greatest prayer on the cross
It is the only sacrament taken freely
What are the unifying affects of the Eucharist?
It is a shared meal
We should share the world’s resources-so we take collections for the poor
Jesus died for everyone-there is no room for discrimination
It brings the community together-should welcome new members to the church
