S14.3 Pharmacogenetics Flashcards
1
Q
What is pharmacogenetics?
A
Understanding how different individual genotypes relate to different drugs.
Some patients may not respond effectively to drugs or have ADRs.
2
Q
Outline type A ADRs
A
Dose dependent, predictable, common, mild
3
Q
Outline type B ADRs
A
Not dose dependent, not predictable, uncommon, severe
4
Q
Outline the effects of CYP 2D6
A
The CYP 2D6 isoform is responsible for the metabolism of ~25% of drugs e.g B-blockers.
Absent or reduced CYP 2D6 activity can lead to ADRs by: decreased elimination and accumulation of the drug from reduced metabolism
