When is pursuit driving permitted
Occupants of vehicle are known to be wanted for commission or attempted commission of a violent or life threatening felony or
Vehicle is being operated in an erratic or
Dangerous manner that poses threat of harm to public if not stopped
A pursuit can occur under these 3
Circumstances
1) Felony involving serious bodily injury (Vehicle itself not considered)
2) In possession of illegal or dangerous weapon used to threaten, injure or kill another person
3) Occupant poses on going immediate threat of serious bodily harm to another person
Who is the point of communication in a pursuit
Secondary unit unless Primary unit is a two man unit
Where can a Patrol Supervisor control a pursuit from
1) Stationary Point
2) Drive towards area using emergency driving

Roadblocks and Barricades are justified when?
Deadly force is justified
Who authorizes roadblocks/barriers
Patrol Supervisor
When can a pursuit be discontinued
1) Officer looses sight for more than 30 seconds
2) School zone
3) Area congested
Etc
Can an unmarked vehicle be involved in a pursuit
Yes - But they have to follow all motor vehicle laws. Once relived by marked unit, they shall discontinue pursuit and follow at a safe distance
Which vehicles should not be used as pursuit vehicles
1) Emergency equipped Sport Utility Vehicles
2) Pickups and other trucks
What supervisor can discontinue a pursuit initiated outside of Boston that enters Boston
Any Supervisor
When can a Boston officer assist with a pursuit from an outside agency
When there is only 1 Unit
Said unit will then be a secondary unit
What form shall be filled out by a supervisor when a pursuit has concluded
BPD form 1647
To whom shall the pursuit form be submitted to by the supervisor
1) Commander of district where officer is assigned
2) Chief of Bureau of Field Services
3) Superintendent-In-Chief
