RTA types Flashcards
type I RTA characteristics
increased acidity of the plasma due to failure to secrete acid. problem acidifying usually in the ducts of the distal nephron. leads to academia and hypokalemia
typical presentation of RTA 1
normal anion gap metabolic acidosis. hypokalemia, hypocalcemia, hyperchloremia, urinary stones, nephrocalcinosis bone demineralization, sjogrens syndrome.
type II characteristics
proximal RTA. failure of the proximal tubular cells to reabsorb filtered bicarb form the urine. leading to bicarb wasting. fanconi syndrome
what does RTA II present as
phosphaturia, glycosuria, aminoaciduria, uricosuria, and tubular proteinuria
type IV RTA
this is not a tubular disorder. it is a mild metabolic acidosis due to physiological reduction in proximal tubular ammonium excretion secondary to hypoaldosteronism resulting in decreased buffering capacity.
what is the cardinal feature of type IV RTA
hyperkalemia.
