what can we learn from the story of the call of Levi?

A

“as he sat at dinner at Levi’s house, many tax-collectors and sinners were also sitting with Jesus.”

  • demonstrates the importance of his mission to outcasts, shows that God’s love is for everyone, including sinners and outcasts
  • angered the Jewish religious leaders because Jewish law forbade Jews to associate with outcasts like tax collectors, who were seen as unclean. Jesus went a step further by sharing a meal with these people, so he was breaking ritual laws

    “you may go, the demon has left your daughter”

A

“all things can be done for the one who believes”
- importance of faith, anything is possible when you believe disciples had been unable to heal the boy because they lacked faith
“i command you, come out of him”
Jesus is powerful as he can heal just by using his word
“this kind can come out only through prayer
shows importance of prayer

what can we learn from the story of the widow at the treasury?

A

“may rich people put in large sums, A poor widow came along and put in 2 copper coins’
“this poor widow has put in more than all of those who have contributed to the treasury”
- shows that the sacrifice is more important than the sum (sacrificed everything she had to live on happily bc of her love for God, showed love and commitment)
