what is sacraments?
It is an outward sign of grace created by Jesus during his lifetime
what are the sacraments of initiation?
baptism, eucharist and confirmation
what do the sacraments of initiation do?
makes a catholic welcome into the body of Christ/ church
what does baptism do?
washes away OG sin
what happens in the eucharist?
receiving the body and blood of Christ - symbolising how he gave his life for us- it is the communion between us, God and the Church
what happens in confirmation?
anointed with the oil of Christ and the holy spirit guides us to become adults in the Catholic church- we become responsible for our faith
what are the sacraments of vocation
marriage and vocation
what does marriage show?
our love for god through our love for one another
what does ordination show?
devotion to God and living Jesus’ words
what are the sacraments of healing?
anointing of the sick and reconciliation
what do the sacraments of healing show?
show how God helps us in difficult times whether mental/ physical we will always be protected by God
why is religious art good?
-visual representation of God help Christians understand their faith
what does the sacred heart statue represent?
Jesus’ burning love for humanity - fire round his heart, the crown of thorns represents him dying for this same love
why is religious art bad
goes against 10 commandments idols should not be worshipped “You shall make no false idols” e.g. not showing him as eternal, wester european
when do Catholics believe life starts?
the fetus is a baby and a seperate sacred life
what is Jesus?
fully human and fully divine
