What is a samskara?
A samskara is a religious ceremony which marks each of the 16 important stages that everyone passes through from birth to death.
What is the sacred syllable.
The sacred syllable is ‘aum’ which represents the most important Hindu gods:
Brahma
Vishnu
Shiva
Why is the sacred syllable written on the tongue of every new born Hindu baby?
It symbolises the importances of the 3 gods to Hindus.
What happens at the fifth samskara?
The priest uses the birth horoscope to suggest certain syllables to form the baby’s name.
Why is honey used to write the aum symbol on the baby’s tongue?
Honey is sweet and the baby won’t choke on honey.
