Why do children and teenagers need fat?
They need fat for energy. ( they can get this from oily fish, cereals, meat and cheese.)
Why do the Eskimos and the Japanese have a low chance of getting heart disease?
Because they eat very little fat compared to a western diet.
Where do find fat in our diet.
Butter/margarine: used on Toast or when cooking,
Oil: used for frying, dipping, salad dressings,
Lard: used for baking and frying,
Ghee: used in Indian and other Asian food.
What are the factors that contribute to heart disease?
Diet
Being overweight
Lack of exercise
Smoking
What can one do to reduce the risk of developing heart disease?
Eat a healthy diet e.g. Avoid saturated fats,
Get exercise regularly,
Reduce stress.
