When was the Rowlatt Act?
March 1919
Why did the Gov of India appoint Mr Rowlatt?
He was afraid that economic + political turbulence was fueling a potentially dangerous situation for the Raj
What did Rowlatt do?
Headed the Rowlatt Commission that was to investigate revolutionary conspiracies
What did the Rowlatt Commission report in July 1918?
Their report isolated Bengal, Bombay, and Punjab as the centres of revolutionary activity
What did the Rowlatt Act conclude of?
Imprisonment without trial, Trial by judges without a jury, censorship, house arrests of suspects

Anarchical and Revolutionary Crimes Act

That the act was extremely offensive
