Routines can normally be supported by closing up on watch personnel.
Stations require the closing up of all personnel onboard.

Who is the OOD ?
He’s a submarine qualified commissioned officer or senior non commissioned officer who has passed the OOD board.
The EOOD is who’s representative when he’s duty ?
MEO
When the EOOD is a NWOD who has to be the OOD ?
A submarine qualified commissioned officer has to be the OOD.
How many people do we have on the duty watch whilst in harbour ?
18
The 6 normal turn to and secure times ?
08:00 = ABs leave expires.
08:05 = LHs leave expires.
08:15 = SRs leave expires.
08:20 = Hands muster as ordered.
12:00 = Friday only secure non duty personnel for weekenders.
16:00 = Monday to Thursday secure non duty personnel for night leave.
Shore support organisations that may be represented on board in harbour are ?
Contractors

Closing up reports at harbour stations ?
Ship control make harbour stations pipe
All FWD compartments are to report into DCHQ who report all compartments closed up to ship control.
All compartments AFT report to the back desk who reports all compartments closed up to DCHQ
Ship control reports all compartments closed up at harbour stations to the XO along with any exceptions.
Before closing up at a previously unmanned position the following is carried out ?
Check position is safe for personnel
Report to individual in charge when closed up
Check comms are working properly
Check required personnel are present
Make any required reports to DCHQ
A report needs to be made to DCHQ or ships control to assure that all compartments are closed up and all required positions are manned. Reports should be made as quick as possible and can be communicated in the following ways ?
ICS
Daily telephone
Sound powered telephone
control and maintenance line group
In person
Report procedure ?
State who is making it and make the report
Wait for the report to be repeated back and if it’s correct take no further action
If it’s incorrect restate the report
A report has not been given until it has been acknowledged.
Closing up reports at emergency stations ?
Anyone with a general alarm and broadcast can bring sub to emergency stations
Ship control or MR make emergency stations pipe
Initial reports are made to ship control until DCHQ are closed up
All manned positions report to DCHQ when the pipe ‘DCHQ has the incident all reports to DCHQ is heard.
Sub will be closed up at emergency stations when all positions have reported into DCHQ as closed up
Examples of relevant handover information form signalman to bridge lookout at falling out from harbour stations is as follows ?
Identify close contacts
Identify all other visual contacts
Any personnel on the casing
Any ceremonial events that are required
Handover binoculars and bridge bag
Ensure he understands and is happy to handover
Roles of special sea duty men ?
Boat transfer
Helo transfer
Fitting clip for towed array
Mooring to a bouy
Roles of bridge team ?
Provide safe navigation in and out of harbour
Direct tugs and support vessels as required for movement purposes
Carry out ceremonial tasks
Role of the casing team is to conduct all aspects of seamanship associated with subs casing at harbour stations such as ?
Rope work
Operating capstans
Removal/ fitting gangways
Supervise safety of personnel on casing
Role of control room team ?
Provide additional navigation support to the bridge in the form of periscope, radar or sonar systems being closed up
Role of ships control team ?
Control speed and course as directed by the bridge
Operate ships systems
Liaise with MR for propulsion requirements
Take the sub to any station as required
Role of DCHQ and damage control parties ?
When at harbour stations provide an organisation closed up ready to respond to any hazards associated with operating in a confined sea area.
Role of WE team ?
Manage and repair any electrical failures using teams directed by DCHQ.
Support any failure of WE equipment used in harbouring stations.
