Rotator Cuff Related Shoulder Pain Flashcards
1
Q
Included pathologies
A
> Sub-acromial pain syndrome (impingement)
Rotator Cuff Tendinopathy
Rotator Cuff Tears
2
Q
Possible contributing factors
A
> Tendon compression via intrinsic/extrinsic factors (possible compression of greater tuberosity on superior glenoid) > Tendon Under/Overuse > Genetics > Nutrition > Continual Overhead work > Diabetes > Age - over 50
3
Q
Clinical Presentation
A
> Pain + Impairment of shoulder movement (typically in elevation via flex/abd and lateral rotation)
Altered scapula movement (lower traps with delayed activity)
+ increased superior glide of humeral head in glenoid
Painful arc (usually around 90 degrees to 120 degrees)
> Usually due to excessive or mal-adaptive load
4
Q
Management
A
Similar outcomes over long term so depends on patient > Surgery > Physiotherapy - Strengthening - modify load - educate
