Colectivos Tupam, along with ruling party supporters, arrived:
llegaron a la fuerza y se infiltraron entre la multitud que entraba al centro de votaciones
They forcibly infiltrated the crowd at the voting center.

They arrived on motorcycles.
dispararon al aire para infundir miedo
They fired shots into the air to intimidate people.

Military personnel took the ballot boxes containing the votes.

Fearing for my safety, I went home. On the way, I realized that members of the ruling party were following me.
llegue otra vez toda asustada, sorprendida hasta donde había llegado todo esto y de las consecuencias de la misma, en ese momento fue cuando en realidad me di cuenta lo peligroso de toda la situación
Once home, I was terrified and overwhelmed, realizing the gravity and dangers of the entire situation.

Instantly the Colectivos Tupam began calling me, saying things like: “We won, you’re dead, you damn escuálida (derogatory term for opposition supporters).”
llamaron a mi hermano y a mi mama para amenazarlos, intimidaciones de todo tipo
They called my brother and mother, issuing threats and intimidating us in various ways.
teníamos que tener cuidado al salir y entrar a la casa
We had to be extremely cautious when leaving or entering our house.

While heading to my university, I was chased by ruling party motorcyclists shouting:

“We’re going to kill you and your family.”
empecé a salir aterrada a las calles, con un susto no habitual en mi.
I began living in constant fear whenever I had to leave home.

The situation escalated: Violence and persecution reached even within the university. I had to sneak in and out of campus to continue my studies, but every day it became more challenging.

Not only was my brother being followed, but I was being targeted too.

A mi me vieron porque trate de retirarme lo más rápido posible, empezaron a perseguirme pero me escondí en una casa cerca hasta que dejaran de hacerlo.
They saw me as I tried to leave as quickly as possible: They started chasing me, but I hid in a nearby house until they stopped.

They called my mother, and she managed to take me to the “18 de Octubre” Health Center in Maracaibo, Zulia State.
Desde ese momento vivo asustada, nerviosa y no salía para ningún lado por miedo a todo lo que estaba sucediendo.
Since then, I’ve lived in fear, anxious, and avoided leaving the house due to everything that was happening.

empezaron a sonar las alarmas de emergencia
The emergency alarms went off.
salimos corriendo el motivo era porque los llamados “colectivos. tupamaros” empezaron a tirar bombas incendiarias en contra de los estudiantes violando la autonomía universitaria a horas del mediodía inmediatamente
We ran out, and the reason was that the so-called colectivos tupamaros began throwing incendiary bombs against the students. They violated university autonomy in broad daylight.
empecé a correr a buscar donde esconderme para que no me llegaran alcanzar
I started running to find a place to hide so they wouldn’t catch me.
con miedo a varias cuadras de la universidad
Terrified, a few blocks away from the university:
pedi permiso a una familia
I asked a family for shelter.
les pedi que me resguardaran hasta que todo se tranquilizara.
I begged them to protect me until things calmed down.
Escuchamos detonaciones de armas y amenazas como por ejemplo “los encontraremos y los mataremos con maduro estamos seguros”
We heard gunfire and threats such as: “We will find you and kill you; with Maduro, we’re safe.”

My fear worsened:

When I left the house where I was hiding, I went straight to my home.
me puse a llorar horas después empezaron hacer ruidos con las motos a gritar enfrente a mi casa de nuevo y reiteradas veces consignas políticas intimidantes
I cried for hours. Later, they began making noises with their motorcycles and shouting political slogans in front of my house repeatedly.

We confirmed that we were being watched by “active colectivos,” Not just at home but also at my workplace. They said things like: “We’re going to kill you, get out of there, damn you! Nobody messes with the people or my Commander.”
ya no era solo a mí sino también a mi hermano
It wasn’t just me anymore; my brother was being threatened too.

They warned him they would kill him.
temía por mi vida, la de mi hermano y mi mama, hay donde comenzamos a pensar seriamente cómo salir del país mi hermano y yo.
I feared for my life, my brother’s life, and my mother’s. That’s when my brother and I began seriously considering how to leave the country.

sali corriendo desesperada a mi trabajo ya que se encuentra relativamente cerca
I ran desperately to my workplace, which is relatively close.

I arrived at my workplace feeling hopeless, unable to do anything or leave the house.

I was more terrified than ever to return to the university, fearing the same thing or worse might happen to me.

I felt immense fear, and my nerves started to attack me. It wasn’t just at home anymore; now it was happening at my workplace.
decidí dejar el trabajo ya que era riesgos para mi y a mis compañeros
I decided to quit my job as it was a risk for me and my coworkers.

I also left the university because of the threats and the frequent acts of violence against students.

That same night, while I went grocery shopping and was returning home in a taxi:
lo empezaron a rodear unos motorizados (hombres encapuchados)
Some motorcyclists (masked men) started surrounding the taxi.
de la desesperación le dije al taxista que diera vueltas que no podía llegar a mi casa todavia
Out of desperation, I told the driver to keep driving in circles because I couldn’t go home yet.
los hombres encapuchados nos tocaban el vidrio y empezamos a dar vueltas
The masked men knocked on the taxi windows, and we kept driving in circles.
el chofer del taxi como pudo supo esquivar la situación salimos de eso
The taxi driver managed to avoid them, and we escaped.
logramos perderlos, pero al volver a casa me dio una crisis de nervios
When I got home, I had a nervous breakdown.

In the kitchen, they had left a note saying:

Para despistarlos por unos días hasta logra salir del pais.
To throw them off for a few days while I managed to leave the country,
realicé los trámites necesarios para salir del país
I carried out the necessary procedures to leave discreetly,
fue difícil para conseguir el boleto haciéndolo todo discretamente para que nadie supiera de tal decisión
It was difficult to obtain a ticket while ensuring no one knew about my decision.
