Theme Family and Obligation
Many of the tragic event in Rome and Juliet come from the characters’ desire to serve their families. Even when Romeo and Juliet meet they realise their opposing families is enough to threaten the future of their relationship.
Theme - Defying Authority
Romeo and Juliet defy their families rivalry especially going against their parents. Both the Montague and Capulet families are constantly in contest leading to multiple deaths.
Theme / Violence and death
Throughout the entire play, Mercutio killed by Tybalt, Tybalt killed by Romeo, Paris killed by Romeo, Romeo and Juliet kill themselves. Never ending violence and death.
Theme - Fate
The main characters’ fate was already decided from the start due to the fatal flaws and circumstances. Had the letter arrived maybe they would have survived.
