Pathological ROM restrictions
Scar tissue, Fx, Arthritis, contracture
Non-pathological ROM restrictions
Age, gender, hereditary, occupation, muscle bulk
Indications for PROM
Patient is unable to move on their own, inflamed tissue, AAROM/AROM would increase abnormal muscle tone or cardiopulmonary stress
Contraindications for PROM
Movement would increase patient symptoms, patient would benefit from active exercise
Indications for AROM
Patient can voluntarily move, benefits contribute to the patient goals
Contraindications for AROM
Patient response is life threatening, unhealed Fx site, severe soft tissue trauma, symptoms increase with exercise
Movements for neck and trunk
Flexion
Extension
Lateral Flexion
Rotation
