RECRUIT AND PROMOTE CANDIDATES

A

POINT - One role of political parties is to recruit and promote candidates.
EXPLAIN - In Scotland’s democracy each of the parties have to recruit people to stand a promote them.To be successful they will want to recruit candidates that will be popular to voters but also be strong supporters of the parties policies.
EXAMPLE - For example, Labour in Scotland have been trying to recruit more women to stand as a way of showing the party is passionate about equality.

PRODUCE A MANIFESTO

A

POINT - Another role of political parties is to produce a manifesto.
EXPLAIN - A manifesto is a collection of policies that the party has. The policies in the manifesto are like a promise being made to voters.
EXAMPLE - For example, the SNP said if re-elected in 2021 then they would campaign for a second independence referendum.

OUT AND CAMPAIGN

A

POINT - A final role of political parties is to go out and campaign.
EXPLAIN - This is when the parties will organise their supporters and members to go out onto the streets,knock on doors and try and convince people to support them.
EXAMPLE - For example, in may 2021 the SNP party members campaigned in Aberdeen-Shire East for Gillian Martin to be re-elected as their MSP. She won the seat.
