Q

How are igneous rocks formed

A

They are formed as a result of volcanic activity. Hot molten magma escapes from the mantle. It cools and solidifies quickly into rock on the earth surface or slowly deep inside the crust.

Q

How are sedimentary rocks formed.

A

They are formed from the particles of rocks and dead plants and animals. They were deposited on sea and lakebeds as well as on land. Les of this material built up over time and were impressed and cemented creating solid rock.

What type of rock is granite what colour is it what textures have what is it you and where is it.how was it formed

A

🌎Type:igneous
🌎Colour:range of colours including grey, black, pink and cream.
🌎Use:buildings,work tops and fireplaces.
🌎Location:Mourne Mountains and the Wicklow Mountains.
🌍It was formed when molten magma pushed its way into the crust and colled and hardened there it colled slowly producing large crystals

What type of rock is limestone what colour is it,what texture does it have, what uses does it have and where is it located. How was it formed

A

🌎Type:sedimentary
🌎Colour:grey
🌎Texture:easily weathered.It is a permeable and soluble.
🌎Uses:Monuments,buildings,cement
🌎Location:The Burren,Co.clareIt
🌎it was formed at the bottom of warm shallow water.it is made from oarticles of shells and fossils which piled up over millions of years the weight cemented and compressed into layres if solid rock

What colour is sandstone what type of rock is sandstone what texture does it have what uses does it have and where is it located.hiw was it formed

A

🌎Type:sedimentary
🌎Colour:reddish
🌎Texture:coarse grained
🌎Uses:patios and buildings
🌎Location:MacGillycuddy’s Reeks and the Galtees .
🌎it is formed when sand is worn away from the earths crust. This sand is carried way by wind and rivers and then deposited in seas lakes and deserts were layres were cemented and compressed creating solid rock.

Q

how is oil and gas extracted

A

oil and gas are extracted from the rocks by drilling and pumping. The process involves drilling deep into the earths crust and pumping the oil and gas from there to the surface.Sometimes this can by done offshore in the sea.It is done by a rig and the oil and gas is then piped ashore

Q

how is rock used for building materials

A

we extract rock every day from the earths crust for building purposes. This is done through the process of quarring.Large machinery is used to cut rock out ,or sometimes dynamite is used to explode rock from the crust.Rocks that are used as building material include limestone, sandstone and marble
