Robinson 22 Systems 10/26/2022 Flashcards
What is the purpose of the coning hinge?
Allows each blade to move up and down independently of the other blade.
What is the purpose of the teetering hinges?
Allows the blades to flap together as a unit
What is the purpose of the blade pitch change horn?
To give the feathering pitch change mechanism (cyclic/swashplate) a place to attach to the blade
Swash plate => Pitch link => Pitch horn
What is the purpose of the blade grip?
Attaches the blade to the main rotor. The pitch links are attached to the blade grips. The blade grips have bearings and fluid inside them.
Rotor head => Blade grip => Rotor blade
What is the purpose of the pitch link?
To make sure the blade responds to the collective and cyclic control commands corresponding to the swashplate’s position
Swash plate => Pitch link => Pitch horn
What is the purpose of the swashplate?
To transmit the pilot’s commands from the non-rotating fuselage to the rotating rotor hub and blades
Main Rotor System
The rods/tubes coming from the cyclic to the stationary swashplate are called
Push/pull tubes
What is the purpose of the scissors?
Take the load off the pitch linkages
How would you describe the rotor system on the R22?
It is a semi rigid, underslung, low inertia system
What is the purpose of the “tip weights”
They add a slight bit of weight to the tips of the rotor in order to help with the low inertia
Flapping is also known as what?
Teetering
Does the tail rotor cone?
NO
Describe the air intake system
There is a box at the bottom of the helicopter. This box leads to the carburetor. The air flowing through the carburetor can be one of three types of air:
- Outside air intake
- Heated air intake (from the exhaust shroud)
- Or a combination (controlled by the carb heat control)
What connects the engine to the transmission?
V-belts
What is the purpose of the flex couplings?
It allows the clutch acuator to move the top pulley up and down in order to tighten the clutch v-belts. This moving up/down slightly changes the position of the drive shaft. This change in position is accounted for by the flex couplers.
Where is the sprag clutch located?
On the back side of the upper pulley
What is the purpose of the sprag clutch? (2 things)
1) It transfers power from the engine to the rotor system
2) If the engine fails, it allows the rotor to continue turning, while the engine RPM slows
What is a pilot looking for on the teletemps?
No more than two squares
Air intake
Manifold pressure gauge
Fuel primer
Cylinder head temp
Bell crank assembly
Carb heat
Sprag clutch
Oil return
Air intake
Describe the governor
A sensing device that senses rotor and engine RPM and makes the necessary adjustments in order to keep rotor RPM constant.
Describe the correlator
Mechanical connection between the collective lever and the engine throttle. When the collective is raised, power is automatically increased and vice versa.
Does the correlator require slight throttle adjustments? Does the governor?
Yes/No
