Definition for Robbery - S94 of Crimes Act 1900

Aggravated offence: Armed with a dangerous weapon, 25 years imprisonment
S98 - Robbery with arms etc wounding
Whoever armed with an offence weapon or instrument or in company, robs/assaults with intent to rob, before at the time or after the robbery or assault, wounds or inflects GBH 25 years.
Robbery SOPS 1. Initial Response
Obtain all known information from VKG (exact location, time of offence, number of offenders, any weapons, proceeds, description of offenders and vehicles)
Remember officer survival techniques (tactical options, vests, extra car crews)
Make observations of the scene (getaway vehicle, persons going in or out of the premise, persons with injuries) and relay via VKG
Consider additional resources (Dog, PolAir)
Consider approach to the scene (do not park in direct sight, kill sirens on approach, allocate crews to attend and circulate)
Robbery SOPS 2. Scene attendance
Approach and enter the premise. If the offender is still on premise:
i. Avoid taking actions that would place civilians or Police in further danger
ii. Observe number of offenders and if any weapons
iii. Consider option to ‘Contain and Negotiate’
iv. Consider activating; negotiators, TOU, SPG
v. Relay all information via VKG
Identify any persons with injuries
Identify any victims and witnesses
Obtain further descriptions of the offenders and vehicles, last known direction, weapons, proceeds etc
Crime scene considerations:
i. Establish a primary and secondary crime scene
ii. Appoint officers for crime scene guard and crime scene log
iii. Advise Supervisor and Duty Officer
Separate witnesses and victims
Identify and preserve physical and forensic evidence
Record all details in OPN
Robbery SOPS 3. Investigation
Initiate canvass to identify further witnesses and CCTV
Obtain statements (preferably typed) from witnesses and victims
Secure CCTV if possible
Initiate canvas for discarded physical evidence (eg proceeds, clothing, weapons) or forensic evidence (eg blood, cigarette butt)
Ensure correct recording, seizure and continuity of exhibits. Organise forensic analysis asap
Notify necessary units (eg SOCO’s, Crime Scene, ERU, MRU, Robbery Squad, Ballistics)
Collect notes from attending Police
Supply victims and witnesses with information about support services
