Kidnapping do’s
Treat all calls as genuine
Immediately notify Robbery and Serous Crime Squad (DOI after hours)
Immediately notify Duty Officer and Supervisor
Maintain COVERT Police strategies; do not send Police to the premise, do not ask the victim to attend the Police station, do not create a CAD job
Main objective is the safe return of the hostage
Establish a line of contact with the witness (preferably not used by the offender)
Establish ‘codeword’ to use by Police to confirm to the victim that contact is genuine
Record all details in OPN
Kidnapping Ask the witness:
Personal details of the victim and hostage
Obtain precise details of any phone calls or communication
Obtain precise details of the threat
Ascertain who last saw/spoke with the hostage
Who they have told of the situation, and not to tell anyone else
Kidnapping Tell the victim:
Assurances Police are treating the matter with authority
To contact Police of any further contact with the kidnappers
Not to tell anyone else
If anyone is with him, to keep them at the premise
