vascular endothelial cells
when R rickettsii attacks the endothelial cells…what disorder does it lead to?
DIC with platelet activation
with sever DIC from RMSF…what happens to the endothelium of vessels?
they can become leaky and blood leaks out leading to SHOCK
what does it mean for a rash to be maculpapular?
it means you can feel the lumps under the skin
where does the rash associated with RMSF usually start and then ultimately go?
starts in the limbs and works its way to the trunk
what do you treat RMSF with? why?
Doxycycline…because it is able to get inside of the cell and rickettsii is an obligate intracellular microbe
