Difference between independent and dependant variables

A
  • Independent variable is the one we can manipulate e.g. amount of water
  • Dependent variable is what is measured e.g. how much the plant grows

What are the different types of experiments

A
  • Lab experiment; Controlled environment with high control of extraneous variables (something other than IV that can impact DV)
  • Field experiment; real life environment but IV is still manipulated
  • Natural experiment; where IV is an event or change in the real environment which occurs without manipulation from the researcher
  • Quasi experiment; Experiments that have an IV that is based on an existing difference between people (for example, age or gender) and cannot be manipulated
