Rivers Flashcards
Describe the main features of the upper course of a river
The upper course of a river is a v-shaped valley, steep slopes, narrow river channel. Erosion is vertical and is mainly hydraulic action. Transportation is via traction.
Describe the main features of the middle course of a river
The middle course of a river is a u-shaped valley, gently slopes, and a wider channel. Erosion is lateral and is mainly attrition and abrasion.
Describe the main features of the lower course of a river
The lower course of a river is low flat valley, wide floodplains, wide river channel. There is less erosion and more deposition. Solution and suspension is common.

What formations are found at the middle course of a river?
Meanders and oxbow lakes are formations that are formed at the middle course of a river
What formations are found at the lower course of a river?
