Climate Systems Flashcards
What is global atmospheric circulation?
Heat being transferred around the earth to create areas of high and low pressure depending on wether the air is rising or sinking
What is the cycle of global atmospheric circulation?
Warm air rising to equator to create low pressure, cool air sinks to create high pressure, and a cycle is created
Name the 3 circulation cells
Polar, Hadley, Ferrel
What are ocean currents?
They transfer heat around the globe by replacing dense, cold water by warm water
What are the natural causes of climate change?
Milankovitch Cycle, Asteroid Collisions, Volcanic Eruptions, Ocean Currents, Changes in sun radiation
What are the human causes of climate change?
Industry, farming, energy production, transport
What is the evidence of climate change?
global temperatures rising, sea levels rising, atmospheric levels rising, melting ice caps, frequent extreme weather
