Baptism (8)
A
- An infant is baptised using a font of water
- Parents and God parents agree to bring the child up in the Christian way
- The child may give Christian name
- The sign of the cross is made on the child’s forehead
- Water is poured over the infant’s head 3 times in the name of the Father, son and Holy spirit
- The priest says the child will be protected from Evil
- The sign of the cross is made.
- A candle is given to the parents and God parents to remind them of their duty

Believers’ baptism (9)

- Happens to 12+
- Must ask for it to happen
- Must repent of their sins
- They often give a testimony to why they want to be Christian
- The minister holds their head and hand
- They plunge backward into water
- Baptism is where someone becomes a Christian
- Sater is a symbol of life and washing away sins
- The candle is the presence of Christ. Also, darkness (old life) to light (new life)

Conformation (11)
A
- Conformation is when a person is old enough to publicly confirm the baptism promise
- Conformation preparational can take from 2 months to a year
- Carried out by a bishop
- Confirmand is a person preparing for a conformation
- A Confirmand who has not been baptised at birth will do it shortly before
- Bishop asks if the person is baptised
- Bishop asks them to confirm the baptism promise
- He places his hand on each confirmands head
- He says to each confirmand ‘confirm to God your servant Name with your holy spirit’
- Holy spirit means the baptism is complete
- In the baptism the old person’s life dies like Jesus’ then resurrects like Jesus

Marriage (12)

• For Christians marriage is a holy bond
• The minister explains the purpose of marriage
• Marriage is to be with one person for their whole life
• Marriage is for children to grow up securely
• Marriage is for two people to grow in love
• The bride and groom make 3 promises to each other
They promise to love and be faithful only to each other for life
They promise to honour each other’s life
They promise to protect and look after each other for their life
• The minister pronounces them husband and wife
• Rings symbol eternal love
• Marriage is covenant

Pilgrimage (2)
A
- A pilgrimage is the act of making a journey to a place with a special religious significance
- People that make the journey are known as pilgrims

Canterbury (6)
A
- Canterbury is the home of the archbishop in the church of England
- The archbishop of Canterbury is also senior bishop of the Anglican church
- St Thomas Becket was killed there due to his beliefs in Canterbury Cathedral
- Becket is remembered as saintly man as he refused to carry out orders from Henry VII
- Miracles were recorded at his tomb
- Canterbury has been an extremely popular pilgrimage ever since

The Holy Land (6)
A
- Is modern day Israel
- Pilgrims visit the Church of the nativity where Jesus was born in Bethlehem
- They travel to Gailee and visit Capernaum where Jesus was taught
- Pilgrims go to the Mount of Beatitudes where Jesus gave the Sermon on the mount
- In Jerusalem they follow the route Jesus took to his crucifixion which is called Via Dolorosa
- Pilgrims visit Jesus’ tomb and pray at the church of the Holy sepulchre
