Risk Factors For Arterial Thrombosis Flashcards
Describe the Three Risk Factors For Arterial Thrombosis
- Atherosclerosis
- Platelet Hypersensitivity
- HIV Infection
Describe the risk factors associated with the development of Atherosclerosis.
Cigarette smoking, physical inactivity, obesity, hypertension, dyslipidaemia (imbalance of lipids), hyperhomocysteinaemia, male sex, menopause and metabolic syndrome
Describe platelet hypersensitivity
Platelet hypersenstitivity is the tendency to aggregate in response to much lower agonsit concentrations than would be normally required.
after the atherosclerotic plaque, platelet hypersensitivity is responsible for the final occluding event
remember that arterial thrombi tends to be platelet rich and platelet driven
Describe the markers for Arterial disease
- PAI-1
- Plasma Fibrinogen
