What is risk assessment?
Decision making, choosing between course of action and another
What must be considered when making a risk assessment?
Feasible options, positive and negative consequences, desireability of consequences, likelihood of consequences, weighing all these factors for best option
What are the priorities of incident response? (5)
- Public Safety
- Officer Safety (including Bomb Techs)
- Protection/preservation of property
- Collection/Preservation of evidence
- Convenience to public/ restoration of services
What is the purpose of the logic tree in incident response?
- Refine the general RSP to be best RSP
- Ensure all steps of the RSP are considered
- Evaluate the various options at each crossroad in the RSP
- Work forward or backward to ensure equip and support are prepared
What are the three main types of devices the bomb tech will encounter?
Timed, Command, Victim Operated
If you decide to xray a device, how far away should you be from the IED during the xray procedure?
Find suitable cover & distance to provide protection from frag and blast
What are the three types of logic trees?
Life Threatening
Non Life Threatening (No Robot)
Non Life Threatening (Robot Available)
Why should you conduct a risk assessment?
In order to make a wise decision which could encompass life or death, a technician must assess the probability and the nature of each consequence for each course of action.
What distinguishes an acceptable risk problem from other decision problems?
At least one alternative option includes a threat to life or health among its consequences.
