Right and wrong as objective truths Flashcards
Why are right and wrong considered objective truths?
Because it is considered independent of personal view, one answer per question, one universal truth. If God is creator of morality, then what He says goes.
What is morality not influenced by? Is this good or bad?
Human opinion/feelings, I’d say bad, because if God is taken to be the God of classical theism, then that also means we believe him to be transcendent, therefore not in our world. This means that despite humans being the centre of Earth and dictators of it even, they have no say even though the consequences of God’s morality ONLY affect humanity.
Why should humans obey Gods laws?
- Eschatological repercussions if they do not
- We are the soldiers to God’s general (we are powerless)
- Following His command means objective moral goodness
What should we follow God’s rules out of? What shouldn’t we follow them out of?
Trust/reliance/hope/respect, should NOT be out of fear.
