Why does God’s omnipotence become necessary?
A
Because if morality was not created by Him, then something else must be responsible. By definition of omnipotence (having complete control over everything), this makes God NOT omnipotent, as in having no control over morality, he no longer has control over everything.

That the ethical template for what is good originates with God and cannot be separate to Him.
