What type of beat (eg. crotchet beats)
Simple time means
Any time signature where the beat can be evenly divided
Compound time means
Any time signature where the beat is divided into uneven groups (usually groups of 3)
Regular metre means
Any metre (time signature/ beat) that is divided in a particular/ regular pattern
Irregular metre means
Any metre (time signature/ beat) that is divided in irregular pattern
Augmentation means
Making the duration of the notes longer
Diminution means
Making the duration of the notes shorter
Tempo means
The speed of the music
Rubato means
A freer tempo- the musician can perform quite freely without a strict tempo
Hemiola means
A play of three against two either vertically (triplets on one instrument while another plays even quavers) or horizontally (in 3/4 time playing a pattern of 2 crotchets and a minim)
