Functions of Occlusal Rims?
To establish the level of Occlusal plane
For selection and arrangement of teeth
To record JRR
For proper lip support
What are the requirements of a baseplate?
Adapted closely to accurately fit the master cast (for retention)
Should not extend beyond vibrating line
Flanges are rounded and in the deepest part of the sulcus
French notches should be present to accommodate the corresponding frenum
What are the requirements for the occlusal rims?
Horseshoe shaped and well secured to the baseplate
Occlusal surface should be smooth and flat
Made to support lips and cheeks
All surface should be smooth
Requirements for maxillary Occlusal Rim?
Labia positive inclination for lip support and maintenance of facial profile
Ant height =22mm, posterior height =18mm
Occlusal surface front=8mm and back= 10mm
If the rim doesn’t have retention or stability please check?
Underextention or overextension
Post dam
Check if the rim is in neutral zone and not placed too far buccally

Canine line-vertical line from the alar of the nose then transferred to the rim
